European Parliament Approves New Commission Members

European Parliament leaders have reached a significant agreement to approve the new European Commission, allowing it to take office by December 1. The deal also entails a commitment to a 'Platform Cooperation Statement' outlining shared political priorities for the upcoming mandate, which emphasizes sustainable growth and democratic values. The final approval vote for all 26 commissioners is scheduled for November 27. Despite this progress, leftist MEPs have criticized the process as a 'backroom deal', claiming it undermines procedural integrity. The new Commission, led by Ursula von der Leyen, is set to begin its work shortly after approval.
