Most Americans Favor Pathway to Legal Status Over Deportation, Quinnipiac Poll Finds
A recent Quinnipiac University poll reveals that 64% of Americans now favor providing undocumented migrants a pathway to legal status, a significant increase from 55% six months ago during President Donald Trump's administration. Support for legal status has grown notably among Republicans and independents, with 31% of Republicans and 71% of independents favoring a pathway, though a majority of Republicans still prefer deportation. Democrats overwhelmingly support legal status at 89%, while only 8% prefer deportation. Despite the growing support for legal pathways, 59% of Americans disapprove of President Trump's handling of deportations, and 56% disapprove of Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) performance, with stark partisan divides in these opinions. The Trump administration continues to push for aggressive immigration enforcement, aiming for what it describes as the largest mass-deportation operation in U.S. history, leading to heightened political tensions and public protests. The poll highlights the complex and polarized nature of immigration policy sentiment amid ongoing enforcement efforts and legal challenges.
