Colorado Rail Projects Receive Federal Grant Funding

Federal officials announced $2.4 billion in railroad grants for 122 projects across the U.S., with a significant portion aimed at enhancing safety and efficiency, particularly for smaller railroads. In Colorado, four rail projects will receive a total of $129.5 million, including $66.4 million designated for improving safety on the BNSF line north of Denver, which will also support future passenger rail services. The funding, part of the Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements Grant Program, reflects ongoing efforts to modernize rail infrastructure and address safety concerns, especially following recent derailments. Other states, like Kentucky, are also benefitting with $32 million awarded to R.J. Corman Railroad Group for track rehabilitation, aimed at boosting economic growth. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg emphasized the importance of these investments in strengthening supply chains and improving passenger rail accessibility. The grants come as part of a broader initiative supported by the Biden administration’s 2021 infrastructure law.
