US Opens Civil-Military Coordination Center in Israel to Oversee Gaza Ceasefire and Aid
The United States has established a Civil-Military Coordination Center (CMCC) in southern Israel, near Kiryat Gat, to support stabilization efforts in Gaza following a ceasefire agreement. The CMCC, staffed by approximately 200 U.S. military personnel alongside representatives from partner nations, NGOs, and international organizations, will facilitate the flow of humanitarian, logistical, and security assistance into Gaza without deploying troops inside the enclave. This center also features an operations floor to monitor real-time developments and oversee the implementation of the ceasefire, aiming to enable a peaceful transition to civilian governance in Gaza. Vice President JD Vance emphasized that while U.S. forces will help operate the center, they will not be deployed in Gaza, and he warned Hamas to disarm and comply with the peace plan, with the U.S. prepared to take harsh action if necessary. Some Israeli and regional sources have expressed concerns about the U.S. influence over Gaza policies, describing the CMCC and the U.S. military presence in Israel as a sign of American control over the peace process and security management. The U.S. role is framed as central to coordinating international aid and peacekeeping efforts, reflecting close cooperation with Israeli authorities and Gulf Arab allies.
