Ford October Sales Rise as EVs Plunge
Ford’s U.S. October sales rose 1.6% year-over-year to 175,584 vehicles, driven by demand for larger SUVs and pickup trucks, with pickup sales up about 5% to roughly 105,771 units. Electric-vehicle volumes plunged nearly 25% in October to about 4,709 units and hybrid sales fell about 4%, leaving internal-combustion vehicles accounting for roughly 87% of sales. The drop followed the end of the federal $7,500 tax credit in September, which had supported EV growth—especially through leases—and helped create a third-quarter surge that reversed in October. CEO Jim Farley warned U.S. EV sales could fall significantly without the credit and flagged increased industry risk from China. Year-to-date through October, Ford has sold about 1.834 million vehicles (up 6.6%) and roughly 74,309 EVs (a marginal gain), underscoring a pivot back toward gasoline models.
