Ukraine Seeks $90B U.S. Mega Deal, Sells Drones
Ukraine is pursuing a roughly $90 billion list of U.S. weapons in a so-called “Mega Deal” while negotiating a separate “Drone Deal” for the United States to buy Ukrainian-made drones, with technical delegations expected in the U.S. later this month or in October. President Volodymyr Zelensky said he discussed the detailed request with U.S. President Donald Trump at the U.N. and that technical teams will move to practical implementation; Kyiv remains open to separate agreements for other weapons, including long-range systems, and has raised the possibility of Tomahawk cruise missiles while withholding sensitive details. To fund urgent purchases such as interceptor drones, Ukraine plans to export surplus domestically produced weapons—notably naval drones—and will present an export concept at the end of September, with export controls to ensure responsible trade. Ukraine is sharing counter–drone-swarm methods with partners and has begun operating a U.S.-made Patriot air-defence system supplied via Israel, with two more systems expected this fall. Russia’s foreign minister warned that any aggression against Moscow would be met with a “decisive response,” underscoring heightened tensions as talks proceed.
