Trump vows to assist Ukraine in reclaiming abducted children amid funding cuts
During a recent call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, President Donald Trump committed to aiding in the return of Ukrainian children abducted by Russia, despite the Trump administration's decision to cut funding to a Yale University project tracking these children. The Humanitarian Research Lab (HRL) had been collecting critical data on over 30,000 children reportedly taken to Russia, but funding was discontinued, raising concerns among lawmakers about potential loss of this data. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce asserted that while funding was cut, the data remains intact and the administration is still committed to addressing the issue. Bipartisan lawmakers, led by Congressman Greg Landsman, are demanding explanations regarding the funding cuts, fearing it could hinder efforts to recover the missing children. The International Criminal Court has already charged Russian officials with war crimes related to the abduction of these children, highlighting the urgent need for continued investigation. Despite these challenges, Trump emphasized his intention to collaborate closely with both Ukraine and Russia to resolve the situation.
