Swiss Experts Release National Consensus on Advanced Prostate Cancer Management

Recent advances in prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment emphasize early detection and personalized therapy strategies. A Swiss expert panel in 2024 highlighted the importance of harmonizing diagnosis and treatment approaches for locally advanced and metastatic prostate cancer, considering national regulations and emerging evidence. New research led by Monash University demonstrated that blood tests detecting tumor DNA mutations can identify patients likely to benefit from targeted therapies like Lutetium PSMA, which delivers radiation directly to prostate cancer cells. Regular screening using prostate-specific antigen (PSA) testing remains crucial for early detection, especially for men over 50 and those with higher risk factors such as family history or race. Additionally, lifestyle factors, including diet, have been identified as influential in prostate cancer risk, with certain foods recommended to be avoided by men over 50 to reduce risk. Emerging models analyzing patient data over time also show promise in predicting disease progression and tailoring treatment plans based on individual risk clusters.
