April 2025 SSI and Social Security Payments Update
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments, which assist 7.4 million Americans with disabilities or low income, are scheduled to be distributed on April 1, 2025. This schedule remains consistent unless the first of the month falls on a weekend or holiday. In May, recipients will receive two payments due to June 1 falling on a weekend, thus skipping a June payment. Social Security payments, distinct from SSI, are distributed in three waves throughout the month based on recipients' birthdates, with the first wave on April 9. These payments are based on lifetime earnings, with maximum benefits varying depending on the retirement age. Social Security has faced recent scrutiny, with Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) raising concerns about potential inefficiencies in the system.
