D.C. Police Sergeant Arrested for Assault on Federal Officer, Machine Gun Possession
Metropolitan Police Department Sergeant Montez Clark, 27, was arrested following a high-speed chase and collision with a vehicle carrying federal agents after he fled a traffic stop for an equipment violation. Authorities found Clark armed with two Glocks, including one modified with a switch to fire as an automatic machine gun, along with unregistered ammunition and high-capacity magazines. Clark and two passengers, Sakou Yates and Russell Campbell, were taken into custody; Campbell faces additional charges for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Clark has been charged with assaulting a federal police officer, fleeing law enforcement, and multiple gun-related offenses, resulting in his placement on administrative leave while the department's Internal Affairs Bureau conducts an investigation. The incident occurred in the Fifth District, where Clark has served since 2019, and has raised serious concerns about police conduct and illegal firearm possession within the department.
