NTPC Discusses Nuclear Technology Partnerships With Global Firms
State-run NTPC is actively pursuing technology partnerships with international firms like Electricité de France, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, and U.S.-based GE Vernova and Holtec International to enhance its nuclear energy capabilities. The company plans to add 10 GW of atomic energy capacity by 2033, focusing on small modular reactors (SMRs) and larger reactor technologies. Concurrently, U.S. Vice President JD Vance and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently met to discuss investing in U.S. nuclear technology as part of broader trade and technology collaborations, including the potential amendment of India's nuclear liability laws to encourage foreign investment. India's Oil Minister emphasized that nuclear power commercialization will be a key topic in future discussions with the U.S., noting the strategic significance of enhancing energy sourcing from America. The Indian government is also committed to revitalizing the nuclear sector with over $2 billion allocated for research and development, aiming for significant growth in nuclear power capacity by 2047.
