Freeze Warnings, Mild Days, Gusty Winds
Freeze Warnings remain in effect for parts of central Illinois and south‑central Kansas as much of the U.S. sees a mild start to the week with afternoon highs in the 50s–70s in many inland and Midwestern cities and into the 80s across parts of the Gulf and South Florida. Despite milder afternoons, many areas will wake to chilly mornings with lows in the 30s, producing patchy frost and areas of dense morning fog that could reduce visibility and slow commutes. Windy conditions are possible at times — observers reported gusts up to 50 mph over the weekend — and breezy west winds with low humidity will create a modest fire‑weather concern Monday in some locations. By late week a cold front and several waves of moisture are expected to return, increasing rain chances and bringing a notable cooldown next weekend with the potential for wintry precipitation in northern and adjacent areas. Coastal and boating conditions will generally be calm now but may grow choppier with north winds early next week, and the remnants of Hurricane Melissa are in the North Atlantic posing no immediate tropical threat. Separately, Washington state health authorities are promoting "No Falls November," urging health staff and care providers to prevent falls among older adults.
