Trump Unveils $92B AI, Energy Investments in Pennsylvania
President Donald Trump announced a historic $92 billion investment package to boost energy and data center infrastructure to support the rapidly growing demand for artificial intelligence (AI) computing power during the Pennsylvania Energy and Innovation Summit in Pittsburgh. The investments, pledged by 20 major energy and technology companies including Google, CoreWeave, Blackstone, Palantir, Exxon, and Chevron, aim to expand power generation, grid infrastructure, and AI training programs across Pennsylvania. Google's $25 billion commitment focuses on data center and AI infrastructure in the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic, alongside $3 billion for hydropower modernization in Pennsylvania, while CoreWeave plans a $6 billion data center in Lancaster with potential expansion. Blackstone is investing over $25 billion in data center and power infrastructure, and Knighthead Capital Management is leading $15 billion for a natural gas-powered data center. The administration emphasized the strategic goal of making the U.S. a global AI leader and securing energy supply amid concerns over the enormous electricity demands of generative AI technology. This initiative reflects a mix of energy sources, including fossil fuels and nuclear, aligning with the administration’s broader energy policy while addressing the infrastructure needs to compete with China in the AI race.
