Danville Councilman Set on Fire in Personal Attack

Danville, Virginia City Councilman Lee Vogler, 38, was attacked and set on fire at his workplace, Showcase Magazine, on Wednesday after assailant Shotsie Michael Buck Hayes, 29, entered the locked office, doused Vogler with a flammable liquid, chased him outside, and ignited him. Vogler was airlifted to a regional burn center, and his current condition remains unknown. Police apprehended Hayes nearby and reported that the attack was motivated by a personal matter unrelated to Vogler’s political position. Hayes faces charges including attempted first-degree murder and aggravated malicious wounding. State political leaders from both parties have condemned the violence and expressed support for Vogler.
