Manchester Synagogue Attacker Identified; Two Killed

A man rammed a car into worshippers and stabbed people outside the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation synagogue in Crumpsall, Manchester during Yom Kippur; two members of the Jewish community were killed and four others were seriously injured. Worshippers prevented the attacker from entering the synagogue and armed officers shot and killed him within minutes of the first emergency call. British counter‑terrorism police and Greater Manchester Police have identified the attacker as 35‑year‑old British citizen of Syrian descent Jihad Al‑Shamie. He was reported to be wearing a vest resembling an explosive device that was later assessed as not viable, and police have declared the incident a terrorist attack with counter‑terrorism units leading the investigation. Multiple others have been arrested in connection with the case (reports vary between two and three additional suspects), and authorities have stepped up patrols and pledged support for victims and the Jewish community as the probe continues.
