Gateway Church Removes Elders Amid Abuse Allegations

Gateway Church in Texas has removed four church elders following an internal investigation into sexual abuse allegations against its founder, Robert Morris. Morris, who resigned earlier this year after admitting to inappropriate sexual behavior in the 1980s, was accused by Cindy Clemishire of abusing her when she was a minor. The investigation revealed that some elders were aware of the allegations but failed to act, prompting their dismissal. Elder Tra Willbanks stated that the church is committed to maintaining biblical and moral values and is cooperating with an ongoing criminal investigation. The church now lists only three remaining elders and emphasizes that no individuals involved in the misconduct will continue to serve in leadership roles. Willbanks confirmed that, to their knowledge, Clemishire is the only identified victim of Morris.
