Norway, UK, Türkiye Electric Car Sales Surge First Half 2025
Electric vehicle (EV) sales have surged worldwide in the first half of 2025, demonstrating a strong shift toward electrified transportation. Norway leads with EVs comprising nearly 97% of new car registrations in June 2025, dominated by the Tesla Model Y, while the Norwegian car market grew 23% in the first half of the year. The UK also saw a 34.6% rise in battery electric car sales in H1 2025, with Tesla retaining the top seller spot despite controversies surrounding its founder; however, UK car production was impacted by tariffs imposed by President Trump, recently reduced under a trade deal. In India, BMW Group reported a 234% increase in EV sales, contributing 18% to its total sales, led by the BMW iX1 Long Wheelbase. Turkey's EV market doubled year-on-year, reaching 17.6% of passenger car sales, with domestic brand Togg leading locally, while gasoline cars still hold the largest market share. In Ireland, new car registrations increased 3.5% year-on-year, with EVs gaining 27% in sales, led by the Volkswagen ID.4 as the top electric model.
