Arson Suspect Targets Pa. Gov. Shapiro Over Palestine Stance

Cody A. Balmer, 38, has been charged with attempted murder, arson, and terrorism following an attack on Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro's residence, reportedly motivated by Shapiro's perceived stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict. Balmer allegedly called 911 shortly after the incident and stated he wanted Shapiro to know he would not support his 'plans for what he wants to do to the Palestinian people.' The attack occurred while Shapiro was hosting a Passover dinner, and Balmer is accused of using Molotov cocktails to ignite the fire. Authorities noted that Balmer described Shapiro as a 'monster' responsible for the deaths of his friends, indicating a personal grievance tied to the ongoing conflict. While no injuries were reported, the damage to the residence was significant, and Balmer has since turned himself in to law enforcement. Prosecutors are considering the possibility of enhancing charges based on ethnic intimidation, related to Balmer's expressed motives.
