Manfred reviews petition to remove Rose from MLB ineligible list
MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred is considering a petition filed by the family of Pete Rose to posthumously remove him from the league's ineligible list, which would allow for his potential induction into the Hall of Fame. The petition was filed by attorney Jeffrey Lenkov after a meeting with Rose's daughter and Manfred in December. Rose, who died in September 2022, was banned for life in 1989 after admitting to betting on games while managing the Cincinnati Reds. President Donald Trump recently announced his intention to pardon Rose, further fueling discussions about his reinstatement. If successful, this move would reverse the Hall of Fame's rule that excludes anyone on the ineligible list from consideration. Manfred has maintained that betting violations warrant strict penalties, but recent statements suggest a possible reevaluation given Rose's passing.
