Dallas Mavericks to retire Mark Aguirre's No. 24 jersey in January 2026
The Dallas Mavericks announced they will retire Mark Aguirre's No. 24 jersey in a ceremony on January 29, 2026, making him the fifth player in franchise history to receive this honor. Aguirre was the Mavericks' first-ever No. 1 overall draft pick in 1981 and is the team's third all-time leading scorer with 13,930 points. During his eight seasons with Dallas, he was a three-time All-Star and a key player in the 1980s era, averaging 24.6 points per game. After being traded to the Detroit Pistons in 1989, Aguirre won back-to-back NBA championships before retiring in 1994. The Mavericks' Governor Patrick Dumont praised Aguirre's legacy of excellence and commitment, while fans attending the ceremony will receive exclusive memorabilia. The retirement solidifies Aguirre's place among other franchise legends such as Dirk Nowitzki, Rolando Blackman, Derek Harper, and Brad Davis.
