Nexstar, along with Sinclair Broadcasting, has maintained its preemption to ensure what it calls a commitment to "respectful, constructive dialogue" in its markets. The Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr had threatened action against Disney and ABC over Kimmel's comments, influencing local broadcasters' decisions. While the show is available nationwide on Disney's streaming platforms, Nexstar and Sinclair prioritize local news and programming that aligns with their viewers' preferences. Nexstar is also currently seeking FCC approval for a significant merger with Tegna, which may factor into its cautious stance.
