Yankees Plan to Move Aaron Judge to Right Field

The New York Yankees are planning to move reigning AL MVP Aaron Judge back to right field for the 2025 season, a shift prompted by the departure of Juan Soto. General Manager Brian Cashman emphasized that this move would create an opportunity for top prospect Jasson Dominguez to step into the center field role, although his performance in prior call-ups has been inconsistent. Judge, who played primarily in center field during the 2024 season, struggled defensively and this transition should help manage his workload as he ages. The Yankees are not actively seeking a new center fielder in free agency, which suggests a reliance on their internal options, including Dominguez and Trent Grisham. Cashman acknowledged the team's need for additional outfield talent and hinted at possibly pursuing trades for established players.
