Darin LaHood to Seek Reelection in Illinois 16th
Illinois Congressman Darin LaHood has announced his 2026 reelection bid for the U.S. House, choosing not to run for governor or for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Dick Durbin. LaHood has represented Illinois' 16th District since 2022, after previously serving the 18th District, and is the son of former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood. He highlighted his advocacy for the 'America First' agenda, efforts to make Trump-era tax cuts permanent, and support for small businesses and farmers. LaHood will face Democratic challengers Paul Nolley and Joe Albright, along with Republican John Kitover. He ran unopposed in 2024 and continues to be a strong supporter of former President Trump. His district was carried by Trump with a 22.7% margin, and his decision not to seek statewide office is considered a blow to Illinois Republicans seeking high-profile candidates.
