Musk Criticizes Senate Trump Tax Bill Impacting Jobs, Clean Energy
Elon Musk has sharply criticized the latest Senate version of President Donald Trump's massive tax and spending bill, calling it "utterly insane and destructive" for the American economy. Musk argued that the bill would destroy millions of jobs and strategically harm the country by favoring outdated industries while damaging future-focused sectors, particularly due to cuts to clean energy and the accelerated termination of electric vehicle tax credits. The Senate bill, which Trump prioritizes as a key legislative goal, proposes extending the 2017 tax cuts, increasing military and border security spending, and includes new taxes on wind and solar projects that have not yet begun construction. Musk's opposition comes after a recent public feud with Trump over the House's version of the bill, and he highlighted concerns that the bill's environmental provisions would freeze energy investments and raise household energy costs. Despite Musk's criticism, Senate Republicans planned to proceed with procedural votes, aiming to pass the bill and deliver it to the president by July 4. The American Clean Power Association echoed Musk's concerns, warning the bill would harm domestic energy production and increase energy prices for consumers.
