House Ethics Committee Closes Campaign Fund Investigations

The House Ethics Committee has closed investigations into four congressmen, including Reps. Ronny Jackson and Wesley Hunt, who were accused of misusing campaign funds. While the committee found evidence of noncompliance with campaign finance standards, it concluded there was no intentional misuse of funds. Jackson faced allegations of spending nearly $12,000 at a private club, and Hunt was accused of spending over $74,000 at a luxury hotel, but both were cleared of wrongdoing. Sanford Bishop's long-standing investigation revealed significant campaign fund misappropriations, including over $90,000 spent on personal expenses. The committee noted that existing rules regarding campaign fund use are ambiguous and will release updated guidance to clarify these standards. Despite acknowledging widespread abuses, no disciplinary action will be taken against the involved lawmakers.
