Metro Officer Stabbed in Face; Suspect Arrested
A Metro Transit Police Department officer was stabbed in the face with a sharp metal object at the Navy Yard Metro station in Washington, D.C., while stopping a suspect for fare evasion. The officer sustained non-life-threatening lacerations and puncture wounds and was taken to the hospital. The suspect was quickly detained by nearby officers, and the weapon was recovered. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, en route to the station to discuss transit safety, expressed concern over the incident and emphasized the need for improved security measures. Duffy plans to meet with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority CEO to address transit security. The officer, reportedly in good spirits after the attack, remains on duty, while WMATA seeks prosecution of the suspect for assaulting a law enforcement officer.
