Israel and Hamas Reach Hostage Agreement

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that a deal has been reached for the return of hostages held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip, following negotiations involving Qatar, the United States, and Egypt. The agreement includes a ceasefire and a phased release of hostages, with Hamas set to release 33 Israeli captives in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, including 50 for each female soldier and 30 for each civilian. Despite previous reports of last-minute snags in negotiations, Netanyahu confirmed the deal would be presented to the security cabinet for approval. The ceasefire is expected to take effect by Sunday, although Israeli bombardments continue in Gaza, resulting in casualties. The situation remains tense, as Hamas has indicated it will not release remaining captives without a lasting ceasefire and full Israeli withdrawal.
