Multiple Cold Case Arrests Made Across U.S.

Arlington police have arrested Mekel Gaston, 29, for the 2020 murder of Eugene Johnson, who was lured to an apartment complex and fatally shot during a robbery attempt. Gaston faces a capital murder charge and is held on a $1 million bond after new witness testimony and video evidence linked him to Johnson’s murder and other armed robberies at the same location. Separately, Nashville authorities arrested Landon Gray nearly 15 years after Joshua Lars Strickland was found shot and burned in a truck, with Gray now indicted on first-degree and felony murder charges. In Jacksonville, Michael Byron was charged with second-degree murder for the October 2023 shooting of Shawndell Robinson while already in custody for unrelated offenses.
