EU Trust Hits Highest Level Since 2007

Trust in the European Union has reached its highest level since 2007, with 52% of citizens expressing confidence in the EU, according to the latest Eurobarometer surveys. Support for the euro is at a record high, with 74% of all EU citizens and 83% in the eurozone backing the currency. Security and defense remain top priorities, with 81% favoring a common defense policy and 78% expressing worry about EU security, largely due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which 77% consider a major threat. Optimism about the EU's future is strong, with 62% feeling optimistic and 75% identifying as EU citizens, though opinions on the economic outlook are more divided. Romanians show above-average trust in the EU at 56% and place greater emphasis on food security and agriculture compared to other Europeans. Broad support exists for rules-based global cooperation and for the EU to respond to international trade disputes.
