Randy Fine Proposes Repeal of Florida Gun Law

Florida State Senator Randy Fine has proposed a bill (SB 94) to repeal the law preventing individuals under 21 from purchasing rifles and long guns, a controversial measure enacted in 2018 following the Parkland shooting. The proposal is set for consideration in the 2025 legislative session starting March 4, and mirrors a past measure that passed the House but failed in the Senate. The 2018 law was part of efforts to curb gun violence after the tragic shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, which resulted in 17 deaths. The National Rifle Association has challenged the law, arguing it infringes on Second Amendment rights, and while it has been upheld by a federal judge and a panel of the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, the case is still pending full review. Fine, recently elected to the Senate and running for a congressional seat, emphasizes his support for gun rights with this proposal. The measure, if passed, would significantly roll back one of Florida's key gun control laws.
