Online Abuse Against Women Rises Post-Reelection

Following Donald Trump's reelection, there has been a significant increase in online abuse and harassment towards women, particularly Gen Z, with phrases like 'your body, my choice' and 'get back to the kitchen' becoming prevalent on social media platforms like X and TikTok. Far-right influencer Nick Fuentes contributed to this surge by co-opting the feminist slogan into a misogynistic context, leading to a dramatic increase in its use. The Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD) noted that misogynistic online communities, referred to as the 'Manosphere,' are using Trump's victory as a platform to challenge women's rights and gender equality. Reports of threats and harassment include rape threats and calls to repeal women's voting rights, highlighting a concerning trend of misogyny being more openly expressed. This harassment has not been limited to online spaces, with reports of similar language being used in schools and other real-life environments. Platforms like TikTok have stated that such terms violate their guidelines and are working to remove posts that contain hate speech.
