EU Probes Elon Musk's X for Content Violations

The European Union is contemplating an expansion of its investigation into Elon Musk's social media platform, X, concerning potential violations of content moderation rules under the Digital Services Act (DSA). The investigation, which began in late 2023, is partly focused on posts related to Hamas' attacks on Israel and Musk's endorsement of far-right figures such as Alice Weidel ahead of Germany's February elections. European Commission Vice President Henna Virkkunen stated that they are assessing whether the current scope of the investigation is adequate. Authorities are particularly scrutinizing a recent live-streamed discussion between Musk and Weidel for possibly giving an unfair political advantage, which could breach DSA regulations. The EU's concerns have intensified in the context of rising foreign interference in elections, which has led to probes into other platforms like TikTok. Musk has previously challenged the EU's findings, expressing eagerness for a public legal battle to clarify the issues.
