US Institute of Peace sues Trump administration over DOGE access

The U.S. Institute of Peace (USIP) has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, seeking to prevent what it describes as an illegal takeover by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The lawsuit alleges that DOGE, under the guidance of Trump officials, attempted to forcefully access USIP's headquarters and unlawfully dismissed its president, George Moose, replacing him with Kenneth Jackson from USAID. Staff at the institute resorted to calling the police to keep DOGE representatives out, with the police stating they had received reports of unauthorized individuals inside the building. The legal action challenges a recent executive order from Trump targeting USIP and other agencies for significant cuts, which a federal judge previously ruled likely violated the Constitution. The lawsuit underscores ongoing tensions between the Trump administration and independent government entities, as it seeks to maintain USIP's autonomy and operations. The White House has not yet commented on the lawsuit.
