Royal Caribbean Plans $600M Private Resort Mexico 2027
Royal Caribbean is investing $600 million in Perfect Day Mexico, a private resort under construction at Costa Maya, set to open in fall 2027. This 200-acre destination will be more than twice the size of their Bahamas island Coca Cay and will feature the largest sombrero in the world, a massive water park with over 30 waterslides including the tallest in the Americas, and 12 regionally inspired dining options. The company emphasized cultural sensitivity in the resort’s design, particularly regarding the sombrero, after receiving positive feedback from Mexican audiences. Meanwhile, Atlantis Paradise Island has introduced new experiences like a quieter, exclusive beach area with a dedicated bar, a tropical-themed mini golf course with an adjoining sports bar, and immersive escape rooms blending mythology and pirate themes. In Cabo San Lucas, Mexico Grand Hotels is opening Kadún, a boutique hotel inspired by Baja California Sur’s natural and cultural heritage, featuring modern Mexican architecture, a rooftop pool, spa, and multiple dining venues. Additionally, the Gaylord Pacific Resort & Convention Center has debuted in Chula Vista, California, marking Gaylord Hotels’ first West Coast property with 1,600 rooms and extensive meeting spaces, enhancing the region's hospitality landscape.
