Finland Tops 2025 Happiness Rankings; US, UK Decline
Finland has been named the happiest country in the world for the eighth consecutive year according to the 2025 World Happiness Report, with Denmark, Iceland, and Sweden following closely behind. The rankings are based on factors such as GDP per capita, social support, life expectancy, freedom, and perceptions of corruption. The United States has dropped to its lowest rank ever at 24th, attributed partly to rising numbers of Americans eating alone, which is negatively impacting well-being. Meanwhile, countries like Costa Rica and Mexico have made it into the top 10 for the first time. The report underscores the importance of social connections, trust, and community support as essential elements of happiness, beyond wealth and economic growth. Afghanistan remains the unhappiest country due to ongoing humanitarian crises under Taliban rule.
