Bosch Invests $1.9B in California SiC Production
Bosch is set to transform its Roseville, California facility into the largest silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductor production site globally with a $1.9 billion investment. The U.S. Commerce Department has preliminarily agreed to provide Bosch with up to $225 million in subsidies and $350 million in proposed loans, as part of the $52.7 billion CHIPS and Science Act to bolster U.S. semiconductor production. This redevelopment is expected to create up to 1,700 jobs, including 1,000 in construction and 700 in manufacturing, engineering, and research. Bosch's SiC chips, crucial for automotive, telecommunications, and defense industries due to their energy efficiency, will start production in 2026 using 200-millimeter wafers. The facility will significantly enhance U.S. SiC manufacturing capacity, potentially accounting for over 40% of national production. Additionally, Bosch will contribute to local workforce development, including a $100,000 grant to Sierra College for STEM programs.
