Storm System Devastates U.S., 27 Dead
The central United States has been devastated by a series of violent storms and tornadoes, resulting in at least 27 fatalities and dozens more injured across several states, including Missouri, Texas, and Arkansas. Missouri recorded the highest number of storm-related deaths, with 12 fatalities, while Kansas experienced a deadly vehicle crash involving more than 50 vehicles due to a severe dust storm. Tornadoes and severe weather also led to power outages affecting over 240,000 properties across six states. Governors in Arkansas and Georgia have declared states of emergency, with Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders allocating $250,000 for disaster recovery. More tornadoes are forecasted in the central Gulf Coast states, along with potential flash flooding in Mississippi, Alabama, and Arkansas. The storms have also exacerbated wildfires in Oklahoma, prompting evacuation orders and further highlighting the extensive damage across the region.
