Zelenskyy Urges US Response After Russian Strike Kills 20 Civilians in Donetsk
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned a recent Russian airstrike on the village of Yarova in Donetsk, which killed more than 20 civilians as pensions were being distributed. He described the attack as "brutally savage" and called on the United States, Europe, and the G20 to respond with stronger sanctions and decisive actions to halt Russia's ongoing aggression. Donetsk Governor Vadym Filashkin labeled the strike "pure terrorism," emphasizing its targeting of ordinary civilians rather than a military objective. Despite Russia's denial of targeting civilians, the conflict has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths since Moscow’s invasion in February 2022. Zelenskyy also criticized President Donald Trump's recent peace talks with Vladimir Putin, suggesting that Trump gave Putin what he wanted by excluding Ukraine from the Alaska summit. The White House has not yet issued a response to Zelenskyy’s appeal following the attack.
