Modi Honored, Strengthens India-Mauritius Relations

During his two-day visit to Mauritius, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the deep familial bond between India and Mauritius and emphasized the island nation as a bridge to the Global South. The visit, coinciding with Mauritius's National Day, saw Modi engage with key leaders, including President Dharam Gokhool and Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam, to strengthen bilateral ties and support initiatives like the redevelopment of Ganga Talao. Modi reiterated India's commitment to Mauritius's defense and infrastructure, reflecting India's SAGAR vision of regional security and growth. The visit included signing several agreements and Modi receiving the highest Mauritian honor, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean. With a significant Indian-origin population, Mauritius shares historical and cultural ties with India, underscored by Modi's gestures like presenting OCI cards to the Ramgoolams, further cementing the strategic partnership.
