Legendary Plans $3M Harry Potter Fanfic Movie Adaptation

Legendary Pictures has acquired the film rights to SenLinYu’s debut novel Alchemised for a reported $3 million, marking one of the largest book adaptation deals ever. The novel, set for publication on September 23 with a first printing of 750,000 copies and translations in 21 languages, originated as a Harry Potter fanfiction focusing on a forbidden romance between Draco Malfoy and Hermione Granger but was reworked into a dark fantasy tale without direct Potter references. Alchemised centers on Helena Marino, a healer caught in a war between alchemists and necromancers, who struggles to recover lost memories while held captive by a powerful necromancer. SenLinYu expressed excitement about Legendary’s enthusiasm and the prospect of bringing the world of Paladia to life on screen. This adaptation highlights the growing trend of fanfiction works transitioning into mainstream publishing and film, following successes like Fifty Shades of Grey. While the story evolved significantly from its fanfiction roots, the deal underscores the commercial viability of such projects in today's entertainment landscape.
