UN Says Gaza Campaign Is Genocide; Erdoğan Reacts
The U.N. Human Rights Council has declared Israel’s campaign in Gaza a genocide, issuing a report that documents extermination, torture, sexual violence and starvation as systematic instruments of atrocity. At the U.N. General Assembly, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan amplified that finding, called Israel's actions “genocide,” displayed images of starving children and urged an immediate ceasefire, recognition of a Palestinian state and concrete action to halt mass civilian suffering. Erdoğan accused Israel of mass extermination, condemned strikes on regional states, warned the conduct undermines post‑World War II human‑rights norms and highlighted U.N. failures, including the deaths of hundreds of aid and U.N. personnel in Gaza. He also raised the Kashmir dispute, pressed for dialogue in line with U.N. Security Council resolutions, promoted regional initiatives and offered the Iraq Development Road Initiative as an alternative to projects that exclude Türkiye. Ankara said it is coordinating with the U.S. administration — including talks with President Trump — on Gaza, Ukraine and Syria as it presses world leaders to act amid rising diplomatic tensions, and reiterated warnings against Islamophobia and Turkey’s commitment to regional stability and Syria’s unity.
