Portland Police Arrest Conservative Journalist Amid Repeated Anti-ICE Protests
Conservative journalist Nick Sortor was arrested by Portland police during anti-ICE protests despite being assaulted by Antifa-affiliated protesters, who have been aggressively targeting anyone perceived as a threat near the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility. Sortor intervened by grabbing and extinguishing a burning American flag, after which he was surrounded, pushed down, and punched by protesters before being arrested on a disorderly conduct charge. Meanwhile, Portland police reportedly did not arrest the Antifa rioters responsible for assaults on journalists, including Post Millennial reporter Katie Daviscourt, who sustained a black eye during the protests. The Portland Police Bureau acknowledged monitoring the protests and detaining those involved in altercations, but local law enforcement presence remains limited by city orders, frustrating ICE officials who cite ongoing violence such as vandalism, doxxing, and physical attacks. Protesters have maintained control over several city blocks, resulting in what journalists describe as lawlessness and a "third-world hellhole," with calls for President Trump to intervene. These events highlight escalating tensions and challenges in maintaining order amid prolonged violent protests targeting ICE in Portland.
