Qatar Airways Signs Largest Boeing Widebody Jet Order
Qatar Airways has placed the largest widebody aircraft order in Boeing's history, committing to purchase up to 210 aircraft, including 130 787 Dreamliners and 30 777-9 jets, with options for an additional 50 planes from the 787 and 777X families. This historic deal, signed during a ceremony attended by U.S. President Donald Trump and Qatar's Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, is expected to support roughly 400,000 jobs across the United States and signals strong growth in global commercial aviation. The 787 Dreamliner and 777-9 are noted for their fuel efficiency and emissions reductions, each offering a 25% improvement over previous models, aligning with Qatar Airways' strategy to invest in the cleanest and most efficient fleet. Alongside the aircraft order, Qatar Airways also inked a landmark deal with GE Aerospace for more than 400 engines, marking the largest widebody engine purchase in GE's history. Qatar Airways CEO Badr Mohammed Al-Meer emphasized the airline’s commitment to meeting rising demand and enhancing passenger connectivity worldwide with this significant fleet expansion. Boeing executives expressed honor at the record-breaking order, underscoring the long-term partnership and Boeing’s role in supporting the airline's growth into the next decade.
