White House Confirms Russia Proposes Trump-Putin Meeting, Date Location Undecided
President Donald Trump has expressed a strong willingness to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin soon, with a high probability of a summit taking place in the near future. The idea for a direct meeting was initiated by Moscow following a lengthy meeting between Putin and Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff, who discussed the ongoing war in Ukraine. While Trump is open to meeting both Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, no date or venue has been finalized as planning remains in the early stages and logistical challenges persist. Trump has repeatedly emphasized his commitment to ending the war on "Day One" of his second term and has maintained communications with both leaders since returning to office. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio noted that significant work remains to overcome many impediments to such a meeting. Discussions also include the possibility of a trilateral meeting involving Zelensky following a US-Russia summit.
