Israel Conducts Strikes on Iran’s Nuclear Sites, Eliminates Key Commanders
Israel has launched a significant military operation targeting Iran's nuclear infrastructure, involving over 70 fighters and drones in airstrikes that lasted around 2.5 hours over Tehran. Israeli officials claim to have destroyed nearly 40 targets, including air defense systems and key military commanders, while achieving air superiority over the Iranian capital. The operation, dubbed Operation Rising Lion, comes amid growing concerns over Iran's advancing nuclear capabilities and threats to abandon the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, with Iran reportedly able to build multiple nuclear bombs imminently. Gulf countries have publicly condemned Israel’s strikes due to fears of regional destabilization but are reportedly privately supportive of efforts to weaken Iran, mindful of their economic interests and security risks tied to their proximity to Iran and alliances with the United States. Despite the tensions, ongoing diplomatic efforts continue, such as Saudi Arabia’s call for dialogue with Iran to address the crisis, reflecting a cautious balancing act in the region. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu emphasized the urgency of the strikes, framing Iran as a clear and present danger, while international bodies like the IAEA have condemned Iran's nuclear activities, further justifying Israel’s actions.
