Ingka Group acquires US AI logistics firm Locus to boost IKEA global delivery
Ingka Group, the largest IKEA retailer, has acquired the U.S.-based AI-powered logistics technology company Locus to enhance its digital logistics capabilities and improve last-mile delivery efficiency. This acquisition supports IKEA's digital transformation, aiming to better meet the surge in online sales, which rose to 28% of total retail revenue in FY24 from 11% in FY19. Locus’s AI-driven platform offers advanced route optimization, real-time tracking, and intelligent resource allocation, which Ingka plans to integrate into its global distribution network to boost supply chain performance and customer experience. The deal reduces IKEA’s reliance on multiple third-party providers and is expected to save the company approximately 100 million euros annually in delivery expenses. Locus will maintain operational independence and continue serving other clients, while contributing to IKEA’s broader digital transformation journey. The acquisition complements previous investments like Made4net for warehouse management and TaskRabbit for furniture assembly, furthering Ingka Group’s ambition to build a faster, smarter, and more flexible distribution network worldwide.
