IED Kills Two Ranchers, Injures One in Tamaulipas
Texas rancher Antonio Céspedes Saldierna, 74, was killed by an improvised explosive device (IED) while driving in Tamaulipas, Mexico, a region plagued by cartel violence. Another individual, Horacio Lopez Peña, was also killed, and Lopez's wife, Ninfa Griselda Ortega, was injured in the explosion. Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller has issued a warning to ranchers and farmers operating near the U.S.-Mexico border to exercise extreme caution, citing the growing threat of cartel activity. Miller advised avoiding dirt roads, unfamiliar objects, cartel-controlled areas, and traveling only during daylight hours. This incident underscores the heightened dangers along the border, where cartels often plant IEDs to deter rivals. The U.S. State Department has designated Tamaulipas as a 'Do Not Travel' area due to crime and violence.
