A recent Microsoft report reveals a coordinated campaign by Chinese-controlled social media bots, known as Taizi Flood, targeting Republican lawmakers in Alabama, Texas, and Tennessee, including Senators Marsha Blackburn and Marco Rubio, and Representatives Michael McCaul and Barry Moore. The campaign aims to influence down-ballot races by disseminating antisemitic messages, corruption accusations, and promoting opposition candidates. Each targeted politician has historically criticized Chinese government policies, prompting the interference effort. Despite the alarming nature of these activities, the report indicates that the campaign did not achieve significant engagement levels. Lawmakers affected by the campaign have expressed concern over China's cyber capabilities impacting democratic processes. China's embassy in Washington has not commented on the allegations.
