Border Czar Threatens Arrests for Officials Interfering with ICE Raids in Los Angeles
President Donald Trump's border czar, Tom Homan, has firmly stated that immigration enforcement will continue daily in Los Angeles despite widespread protests against federal immigration raids. Following deployment of 2,000 National Guard troops to support Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) amid violent demonstrations, Homan warned that anyone, including California officials such as Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, could face arrest and prosecution if they interfere with enforcement operations. Homan emphasized that obstructing law enforcement or harboring undocumented immigrants are felonies, and while he did not believe Bass had crossed the line yet, he indicated the Department of Justice would be asked to prosecute if necessary. Both Newsom and Bass have criticized the National Guard deployment, arguing it escalates tensions and accusing the federal government of creating a spectacle. Despite these criticisms, Homan expressed no regard for the governor's opposition, calling him an embarrassment and affirming the administration's commitment to enforcing immigration laws regardless of local resistance. The Department of Homeland Security reported recent arrests of over 100 undocumented immigrants during ICE operations in Los Angeles, including individuals with criminal backgrounds.
