Trump Unveils Gaza Plan, Vows to Block Annexation
At the U.N. General Assembly, President Donald Trump unveiled a U.S. 21‑point post‑war Gaza framework and privately presented it to leaders from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Egypt, Jordan, Türkiye, Indonesia and Pakistan, with special envoy Steve Witkoff calling the talks “productive.” The plan reportedly envisions an eventual Israeli withdrawal, excludes Hamas from governance, foresees Arab‑ and Muslim‑led security forces and reconstruction funding, and seeks the immediate return of hostages. Trump publicly vowed he “will not allow Israel to annex the West Bank,” rejecting pressure from Israeli far‑right allies, a stance that has drawn resistance from hard‑line Israeli figures. Germany and other international partners have expressed cautious support even as several countries moved to recognize Palestinian statehood and Western governments weigh sanctions or other measures amid outrage over the Gaza offensive. Tensions persist amid continued hostilities — including reported Israeli long‑range strikes inside Yemen — and a planned White House meeting between Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to address the initiative, with concrete breakthroughs still uncertain.
