Trump Unveils Gaza Plan, Threatens Russia Tariffs
Speaking at the U.N. General Assembly, President Donald Trump condemned recent Western recognitions of a Palestinian state as a ‘‘reward’’ for Hamas and demanded the immediate release of all hostages. On the sidelines he convened leaders from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Egypt, Jordan, Türkiye, Indonesia and Pakistan to unveil a U.S. post‑war Gaza framework that reportedly envisions an eventual Israeli withdrawal, excludes Hamas, foresees Arab- and Muslim-led security forces and reconstruction funding, and contemplates a role for the Palestinian Authority in governance. The White House said he will press those leaders in closed‑door talks to back the plan. He also warned Russia that the United States is prepared to impose a “very strong round” of tariffs and other economic measures over the war in Ukraine and said he planned to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. In his address he denounced “globalist” institutions and the U.N., touted his America First foreign‑policy record including recent strikes and actions against Iran, and argued for a more unilateral U.S. posture. He reiterated tough domestic rhetoric on immigration, warning illegal entrants they would face jail.
